Daylight Saving Time and Your Sleep Schedule
The days are slowly beginning to have some more sunshine which can only mean one thing. Daylight Saving Time is approaching! While having summer weather and longer days seems like a treat, it still takes our bodies a little bit of adjusting time. That’s why your friends at Lily + Rein are here to provide you with a plan to keep your mind and body in check during the time change!
A good way to ease into Daylight Saving Time is to start slow. About a week or two before, start getting ready and going to sleep a little earlier than usual. Around 15-30 minutes earlier than your usual bedtime is good. This will help your body make up for that lost hour over the course of a week or two rather than in one day.
Another thing to keep in mind is sticking to your schedule. When the time changes it’s best to not make any drastic life changes such as changing your food and eating schedule. You also want to avoid trying to boost your awake time with caffeine and afternoon naps. Upping you caffeine intake and napping can actually mess up your circadian rhythm even more which can make it difficult to wake up and fall asleep! You want to practice healthy habits during the weeks leading up to and after daylight saving time so that you are still getting a comfortable night’s sleep.
Still having trouble staying awake or falling asleep? That’s where we come in!
